Message from Mrs Dhaliwal

Dear Parents/Carer

Wow! What a busy half term it has been.

We have seen the introduction of our new BeSMART Code, Ace the Attendance Mascot and exciting new learning opportunities take place throughout school.

Today in Collective Worship, we recognised and celebrated achievements linked to behaviour, our school values and attendance. It gave me great pride in seeing so many children recognised across the school.

Well done to Year 1 who achieved the highest attendance this week. They were awarded the Attendance Cup and Ace the teddy mascot.

Thank you to everyone who sent through comments regarding the change to the school day. The responses received were all positive. When children return after half term, the official start time will be 8:50am.  Gates will open at 8:35am. Any children arriving after 8:50am, should report to registration at the main office.

The Coalbrookdale team look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday 27 February 2023.

Community News – Coalbrookdale & Ironbridge Playgroup

Coalbrookdale & Ironbridge Playgroup will be running as usual tomorrow morning in the Coalbrookdale Community Centre. Playgroup is for all children under 5 and as a special day due to our school’s PD Day, older siblings are welcome too to play with their little ones. We will be making cakes, singing, and having a story session and there will be games, toys and puzzles. We would love to see some of our school families bring along their smallest members tomorrow for some fun and friendship! Coalbrookdale Community Centre 9.30-11.30. £2 per family. Every Friday termtime.

Community News – Temporary Road closure – Ladywood, Ironbridge

Severn Gorge Countryside Trust are planning to undertake Tree Felling works. The work is set to commence on Monday, 27th February 2023 and will last for a duration of 12 days between the hours of 9.30am and 16.30pm weekdays only with an end date of Friday, 10th March 2023.

The diversion route for vehicular traffic travelling westbound will be via Ironbridge Road, Church Street, High Street, Barratts Hill, Benthall Lane, Bridge Road, Bridge Bank, Ladywood. For vehicular traffic travelling eastbound vice versa.

Community News – News from the Parish

This Sunday 12th February is Family Service at St. Luke’s, which starts at 11a.m.

Reverend Okeke is leading the service, in which we will be thinking about how Jesus asks us to “put away anxious thoughts” and to “look at the birds of the air; they do not sow and reap and store in barns, yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.” (Matthew 6: 25-26).

An activity table for children will be within the church during the service, at which children will be invited to sit to colour in bird cut-outs, representing the birds around us in all their beauty. We will also be singing “All Things Bright and Beautiful”.

We hope that children from the school may join us.

Water Safety Tips for Parents

The Canal & River Trust have produced some information on water safety for parents based on their SAFE message – Stay Away From the Edge, with a focus on getting children to “Hold hands and take two steps back” when by the water side. They have a video you can watch with your children featuring Maddie Moate from CBeebies: Toddler Water Safety

Other tips
• Always hold your child’s hand when by the water
• Make sure the brake is on the pram or pushchair when stationary
• Make sure to look out for other people on busy towpaths before stepping back

What to do if a child falls into the water
• There may be other people around, so shout for help as loudly as you can.
• If you have other children with you, make sure they are safe.
• Dial 999 and ask for the fire and rescue service. Explain your location clearly – use road names, bridge numbers, what3words and describe any landmarks.
• Lie down on the ground and try to reach them in the water. Use a tree branch, stick or an item of clothing to reach out to them. Don’t get in the water yourself. If they have fallen in, it’s likely that they won’t be too far away from the edge.
• If you can, haul them out of the water. Do this by lying down on the ground and pulling them out by grabbing their clothes. Don’t pull them out from a standing position as you are more likely to fall in the water yourself.
• If you can’t get them out, lie on the ground and hold on to them until help arrives.

But there are things you need to know.
Let’s stay safe and not be silly,
The water here is very chilly.
Find your grown-up, hold their hand,
Two steps back is where you stand.
Look out for bugs and ducks that quack,
But always do it two steps back.
