Welcome back

Firstly, a huge welcome back to all parents, carers and pupils for another year. I am delighted to be able to start our first newsletter of the term off with such a positive vibe! Throughout this week, I have met many parents – be it in passing or longer conversations, along with spending time in each class with your children. Personally, I am proud to be a part of the community and I am looking forward to the academic year ahead.

I hope that you and your family have had a relaxing break and are ready and raring to go for the new academic year. As always, we have lots of exciting learning opportunities for all of our children to experience and enjoy, alongside our Christian celebrations. With Embrace starting their clubs this half term, and staff with lots of excellent opportunities across the year, alongside sporting competitions in the local area, there is a plethora for our children to participate in and enjoy outside of the classroom.

I look forward to seeing you at school events and around the school during the year.

Mr Adam Wheeler

School Values

Our school values are incredibly important to life at Coalbrookdale and form the foundations to giving our children not only a well-rounded education but to prepare them for the wider world and to make them role models within the community.

Each half term, we focus on one of these values in more detail, whilst still promoting them all across our school.

This half term’s focus is Trust.

We will be delving into the trust we place in people, in God and within ourselves in order to accomplish tasks and overcome challenges. We will look at how trust is built, maintained and look for examples trust within our school community.

PE Lessons

Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit (white or navy t-shirt, navy or black shorts, skort or knee length leggings and trainers or black plimsolls/pumps.  NO football tops or sportswear) on the days they have PE.  They do not need to wear school uniform.

PE lessons will take place on:

Monday:  Year 2 and Year 4

Tuesday:  Reception, Year 2 and Year 3

Wednesday:  Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6

Thursday:  Year 1 and Year 5

Friday:  Reception, Year 3 and Year 5

School photographs

A photographer will be in school on Monday 18 September to take individual photos of the children and siblings.  Photographs of siblings within school will be taken during the school hours along with pictures of individual children.  If you have children with pre-school siblings these family portraits will be taken before school in the hall.  Please come to the main doors from 8.30am.

If your child has PE/after school sports club on that Monday they should come to school dressed in their uniform and bring their PE kit in with them to change in to.

Attendance

School attendance is mandatory for all pupils, and it is our priority to ensure that as many children as possible regularly attend school.  Any child who has less than 95% attendance is monitored by the EWO service.  If attendance drops below 90% an Educational Welfare Officer may visit you to see if there are any ways in which they can help to improve attendance.

If your child is poorly, please telephone the school office (01952 386620) on the first day of absence, giving a reason for the absence.  This should be done for every school day they miss.

Late / Appointments in school time

If your child is late or you need to pick them up during the day for an appointment please go to the school office.  Parents will need to sign children in/out of school.

Attendance – Holidays in term time

It is important that children do not miss school due to holiday as they will miss important parts of their education and assessments that help us to plan their learning to ensure they make progress.  As you may be aware the government has renewed appeals to parents not to take their children out of school during term time.  The governors of the school support this and have decided that children will only be given permission to take leave in term time if there are exceptional circumstances which prevents the leave being taken during the 12 weeks school holidays.

If you are only able to take holiday at a set time (determined by your employer for example) please include a letter from your manager (on company headed paper) confirming this with your Request for Leave form.  If leave is requested for a family event that is taking place on a weekday e.g. wedding or funeral, one day would be authorised for this.  Any time off in term time will be at the discretion of the Head teacher.

Any time off requested should be received at least four weeks before the date requested to allow sufficient time for appropriate consideration.  Holiday should not be booked if this authorisation has not been obtained as it will be classed as an unauthorised absence and the Education Welfare Service will be notified.  This may result in you receiving a fixed penalty fine of £60.00 per child/per parent.

School Uniform

Children can bring a bag into school to hold their essential items such as a water bottle, reading and homework books.

In line with NSPCC and safeguarding guidance, children should come to school in their school sports kit on the day(s) that they have PE.

Children will be expected to be in full school uniform on the days that they do not have PE.

School uniform is a royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan; royal blue polo shirt (or white/blue polo shirt or shirt); dark grey or black skirt or trousers/shorts; blue check dress for girls in summer; black, grey or white socks and dark, single coloured footwear (not trainers).

PE uniform is a white or navy t-shirt, navy or black shorts, skort or knee length leggings and trainers or black plimsolls/pumps.  NO football tops or sportswear.

NO jewellery apart from stud earrings should be worn.  Children should not bring in toys as these can get lost or damaged.  Headbands (Alice Bands) must be suitable for school – no unicorn horns or rainbow tails!

School uniform can be ordered online with Bristows via their website at www.schoolwearfactory.co.uk.  Orders can then either be posted direct to you (for a small charge), collected from their shop in Bridgnorth (157 Victoria Road, Bridgnorth WV16 4LL) or sent to school.

Naming school uniform

Please ensure all items brought to school are named.  This includes school uniform, coats, PE kit, shoes, trainers’, school bags, lunch boxes and water bottles.  Any items put in lost property without a name will be sent for recycling at the end of each term.

Mobile Phones/Smart watches in school

Parents are reminded that children should not be bringing mobile phones into school.

If you feel they need a phone with them, perhaps because they walk to and from school on their own, they should be handed into the office.

Watches with the ability to take photos should also not be worn in school.

Water bottles

Children should bring in a named water bottle (unbranded/logo free) to school every day.  These should contain water only and are kept in class.  Children can have juice in their lunch boxes if they wish.  Please do not send your child in with a Prime bottle.

News from the Parish

The Parish would like to welcome everyone back to school, with a special hello for new children and their families.

This Sunday 10th September, there is a Family Service at St Luke’s Church in Ironbridge, to be held 11.00am to 12noon with refreshments afterwards.

Reverend Okeke is leading the service, for which the theme is LOVE. The reading is Romans 13: verses 8-14.

We will be decorating little love hearts together in the pews as we think about this theme, and sing songs including “Let there be love shared among us”.

We hope that children from the school may join us.

We would also like to invite children and their families to the next All Ages Service at our school, from 4.00pm to 5.00pm. There will be a break for juice, biscuits, cake and fruit.

The service will be held in the school hall on Sunday 17th September. Entrance will be signposted and is up the right-hand slope and via the side door.

The theme is FORGIVENESS, bible text Genesis 50:15-21.

There will be singing and craft activities around this theme, and the local churches look forward to seeing families there.

Lessons are taught in piano, singing, flute, clarinet, saxophone, recorders, guitar, and violin. I am able to lend instruments free of charge for my students in: flute, violin, clarinet, recorder, and I have a few keyboards.

Lessons are invoiced half-termly at the following rates:

£16.50 per week for 30 minutes individual lessons

£8.75 per week for 15 minutes individual lessons

£6.50 per week, per student, for 20 minutes, for a shared lesson with 2 beginner students. (This is only possible if 2 compatible students can be paired)

I have 35 years’ experience teaching music.   My students are given the opportunity to take ABRSM exams at several points during the year, if they want to.

Please contact me on 07816 958048 to enquire about lessons for your child.

Music is a wonderful part of a child’s learning journey and I look forward to sharing it with your child.
