Message from Mrs Dhaliwal

Dear Parents/Carers

As we come to the end of another busy and successful week, I would like to begin by saying how much we have missed our Year 6 children while they have been away on their residential visit to Arthog. We have been receiving regular updates about the exciting activities they have been taking part in, and it has been a pleasure to hear from staff about the way they have represented our school. The children have made us incredibly proud, demonstrating our school values and acting as excellent role models throughout their visit. We are looking forward to welcoming them back next week and hearing all about their adventures.

We are also incredibly proud of our Year 4 children who completed their Multiplication Tables Check this week. They have worked extremely hard in preparation, showing great commitment to practising their times tables both in school and at home. We have been so impressed with the focus they demonstrated during the check and the determination they showed to do their very best. Their perseverance and sense of responsibility have really shone through.

A huge well done must also go to our Year 1 children who have done a superb job with their Phonics Screening Check this week. It has been wonderful to see how confidently they have approached the assessment and how much progress they have made. The additional practice at home has made a real difference and has helped many children to close gaps in their learning. Thank you to all parents and carers for your continued support.

Year 3 also impressed us this week during their workshop linked to the Flaxmill. The visiting facilitator commented on how well the children listened, engaged and participated in the drama activities throughout the session. We were delighted to hear such positive feedback and are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and maturity they demonstrated.

I continue to be immensely proud of all of our children and the way they embody our school values each day. Their achievements, attitudes and determination are a credit to themselves, their families and our school community.

As we look ahead, we are currently finalising plans for the next academic year. We will be sharing further information with families over the coming weeks so that transition activities can begin and children can look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.

Book Fair

There will be a book fair after school (3.20pm – 3.50pm) on the following dates:

Friday 26 June
Monday 29 June
Tuesday 30 June
Wednesday 1 July

There will be a variety of books to buy including new book titles and stationery.  Payment is online only and the payment page can be accessed via QR code.  We hope you will be able to support this event.

Friends Summer Fair and raffle

Over the coming days the children will come home with raffle tickets for the annual summer raffle. The tickets are priced at £1 each, please could you offer these to friends and family, all sold and unsold tickets need to be returned to school along with the cash collected by the 8 July.

If you have not already done so, please mark yourself as attending on the Friends summer fair Facebook event, we will be posting updates on stalls, food, drinks, entertainers and events that will take place at the fair.

Friends – Raise £25 in 2025/26

We have been blown away by all the activities the children have been doing this term, so far, they have raised £700.

The class in the lead is Year 1, closely followed by Year 3.

Remember the class who raises the most by the Summer Fair on 10 July will have a class treat in the last week of term.

We have had a great range of activities from sponsored bake sales, bike rides, fun runs to litter picks.

Reception Class Snack and Tuck Shop Reminder

Please note that Reception children do not need to bring money to school for the tuck shop.

We provide a free fruit snack daily. The children have supervised, free access to these snacks throughout the school day. To ensure safety, children under five are always in sight and hearing of adults while eating and must remain seated.

Wraparound Watch

An amazing time in wraparound this week continuing our 30 Days Wild, the children have enjoyed ‘Forest Hall’ where we put blankets down and enjoyed activities including Whistle with Grass, Cones and Painted Stones (our version of Tic Tac Toe), making Nature Crowns with fresh flowers/leaves and being a Wildflower Detective identifying different flowers.  We have also enjoyed being one with nature and Hugged a Tree to feel calm and relax.  The Year 1 children found a moth on the playground coming into school which they enjoyed chatting about and showing the group.  It was identified as a Scarlett Tiger Moth.  (The moth was safely returned outside).

Parish News – St Luke’s Church Ironbridge: Cafe Church this Sunday

A very warm welcome to all to come along to our special family worship Cafe Church service, this Sunday 14th June. The service starts at 11am and will include a refreshments break at 1130 as well as finishing with refreshments at noon.

In our service, we will be thinking about how we can come out of our comfort zones and share the good news of Jesus with other people, even when it might feel challenging. We will also be sharing prayers with others through prayer hearts.

Children will be decorating heart shapes and making tealight holders as we pray with and for each other, and enjoy time spent in each other’s company.

Our colouring and craft activities for children will be at the red tables to the side of the church, where we also have toys and books for younger children.

Community News – Diabetes Awareness

Currently, there are over 300 children and young people living with Type 1 diabetes across Shropshire.

Recently, we have observed an increase in delayed diagnoses of Type 1 diabetes. As a result, some children are presenting to hospital with more severe symptoms, requiring urgent treatment. This may be linked to reduced awareness of the signs and symptoms of Type 1 diabetes within our communities.

To address this, a national awareness campaign, supported by Diabetes UK, is promoting the “4 Ts” of Type 1 diabetes: Toilet, Thirsty, Tired, and Thinner.  Details can be found through the following links:

Community News – Active Future Telford

We are excited to be re-launching Active Future Telford and would like to invite local families to our FREE Open Day on:
