Celebrating World Cultures Day
Today, we have enjoyed a wonderful World Cultures Day in school. Throughout the day, children have been exploring and celebrating the rich range of cultures represented within our school community. They have taken part in a variety of exciting activities, including learning about carnival traditions in Brazil, experiencing Jamaican music, playing games from different cultures and learning new dances – just to name a few!
We are incredibly proud of how well the children engaged with each experience. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to participate made the day truly special and it has been fantastic to see them learning so much about the world around them.

Supporting Your Child’s Next Steps
Today, your child will be bringing home a document which outlines their next steps for the summer term. This includes outcomes from assessments completed at the end of the spring term, alongside clear targets to support their ongoing progress.
Following these assessments, teachers have met to carefully review each child’s learning and identify the key areas of focus for the remainder of the academic year. This ensures that teaching is closely matched to your child’s needs and helps them to continue making strong progress.
You can play a really important role in supporting your child at home by discussing these next steps with them and encouraging them to practise the skills identified. Small, regular support can make a significant difference.
In particular, reading remains a top priority for every child. Reading for at least 10 minutes each day is vital and underpins success across the whole curriculum and it truly opens the door to all other learning.
If you would like to discuss your child’s next steps in more detail, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment with your child’s class teacher.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Behaviour in the Community
I am writing to remind all families of the importance of children continuing to uphold our school values of being responsible, respectful and compassionate when they are out in the local community, including after school.
We are proud of the way our pupils represent the school each day and it is important that this continues beyond the school gates. From time to time, we receive feedback from members of the community, and we ask for your support in reinforcing expectations around positive behaviour, respect for others and keeping safe when children are out with friends.
By working together, we can ensure that all children continue to be positive ambassadors for our school.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
Kind regards
Mrs M Dhaliwal
Author Visits
Next week we will be having two exciting author visits.
On Wednesday, Micheal McCarthy author of ‘All Aboard’ is visiting school to deliver a whole school assembly. He will be sharing his journey to becoming an author. He will then be gifting all Year 1 & 2 children with a copy of his book.
On Friday, Catherin Barr author of ‘Cities going Wild to Save the Planet’ will be visiting our school to deliver a workshop as well as share her story. Catherine Barr is currently completing a Big Walk to Little Schools (currently nominated for an Arts Council/ Lottery funded case study) to inspire curiosity, reading and learning about nature and the environment with art, creative writing, science and geography and our school is a walking stop along her way from Cornwall to Scotland.
After school on Friday, Catherine will be selling and signing copies of her book in the school hall. Books cost £8 for paperback and £15 for hardback copies- cash and card are both accepted forms of payment for this book sale.
Parent Book Club – Wednesday 6 May @ 3.00pm
Parents are invited to read with their child/children from 3.00pm.
- Entry and Exit: Please enter and exit via the main school office. At the end of Book Club, staff will direct parents back to the main office, where you will be signed out and asked to return your lanyards.
- Lanyards: All visitors will be provided with a parent lanyard, which should be worn throughout your time in school.
- Activities: Teachers will have reading activities taking place, and we encourage you to join in with these.
- Multiple Children: If you have more than one child, feel free to split your time between them.
- Fire Safety: We are not expecting a fire drill. However, in the event of the fire alarm sounding, please exit the building via the nearest exit and gather on the top playground.
- Dismissal: After Book Club, children will be dismissed as normal by their class teachers, either from their classrooms or on the playground.
We look forward to seeing you
Friends of the Forest
We are seeking donations of new or unwanted tools to support our forest school sessions, where children learn practical woodworking skills in an outdoor environment. Items such as hammers, hand drills, saws, tools, and sandpaper would be greatly appreciated. Your contributions will help provide hands-on learning opportunities, build confidence, and encourage creativity while connecting young people with nature. If you have any tools to spare, we would be grateful for your support.
