Message from Mrs Dhaliwal

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed a restful and refreshing half term break. It has been lovely to see the children return to school with such positivity and enthusiasm for learning.

We have a busy and exciting half term ahead, with a range of trips and visitors planned to support and enhance our curriculum delivery. These experiences are always invaluable in bringing learning to life and deepening children’s understanding beyond the classroom. We look forward to sharing these moments with you over the coming weeks.

Today, your child will have brought home their half-termly overview. This outlines the key learning focus for their class in the weeks ahead and provides a helpful insight into the curriculum areas that will be covered. We hope you find this useful in supporting conversations about learning at home.

Please take time to check the key dates carefully for this half term, as there are a number of events and activities scheduled. We will continue to send reminders, but we appreciate your support in noting important dates in your diaries.

Our focus value this half term is Compassion. We will be exploring what it truly means to show compassion, noticing when others may need support, choose kind words and act with care and understanding.

This week, a child kindly gave me a beautiful colouring which read “Focus on Kindness.” I thought this was particularly special as it links so closely to our value of compassion. It was a wonderful reminder that compassion often begins with small, everyday acts of kindness. Sometimes it is the children who remind us adults of what truly matters.

As always, thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to a purposeful and positive half term ahead.

Kind regards
Mrs M Dhaliwal

World Book Day – Thursday 5 March

To show our love of reading at Coalbrookdale, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5 March. During the day, each class will be taking part in reading and fun book inspired activities. Dressing up as your favourite story character or author is encouraged and prizes for a fantastic costume can be won. Let’s celebrate reading with a fun filled day!

Friends are selling the wonderlicious bar to coincide with World Book day.

Bars are £2 each and can be purchased either via the link below or popping £2 in a sealed envelope with the child’s name and class number on the outside.

Funds raised from the chocolate bar sales will be going towards the school library refurbishment.

Careers Week Volunteers Needed

We’re getting ready for our upcoming Careers Week beginning the 9 March and would love to involve our parent community. If you’re willing to share your job, skills, or career journey with our pupils—whether through a short talk, demonstration, or Q&A—we’d be delighted to hear from you. Every role helps broaden children’s understanding of the world of work and inspire them with future aspirations.

If you’re interested in taking part, please contact the school office or your child’s class teacher as soon as possible.

Coffee Morning Success!

Our recent SEND Coffee Morning was a great success, and we were delighted to welcome colleagues from Family Hubs, who joined us to offer guidance, answer questions and chat informally with parents and carers. The session created a warm, supportive space for families to connect, share experiences and access helpful information about the services available locally. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a positive atmosphere.

We are pleased to share that another coffee session will be organised after the Easter break, with an even wider range of guests. Representatives from Family Hubs, PODS (Parents Opening Doors), the School Nurse and BSAT (Behavioural Support Advice Team) will be joining us to offer further support and advice. Please keep an eye on future newsletters and school communications for the confirmed date.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and carers who have attended our SEND sessions throughout this academic year. Your engagement, feedback and willingness to work in partnership with us make these events so valuable. Here is what some parents have had to say

Parent feedback: “The SEND coffee sessions have been great (not just for the coffee and biscuits!), they’re really useful and the information is really helpful. I can see how much time and effort that Mr Johnson is putting into the sessions, and we are really grateful to him for this. I will continue to attend these sessions as often as I can.”

 Proud Moments

A pupil has recently made fantastic progress through the use of new adaptive technologies in school, including Lexia and a reading pen. These tools have helped them grow in confidence, develop greater independence and experience real success in their reading.

Our investment in adaptive technologies is ensuring that all children can access learning in a way that meets their individual needs, allowing every learner to thrive and celebrate their achievements.

Asthma Inhalers in school

This week, we have spoken with all children who have asthma to remind them of the importance of letting an adult know when they need to use their inhaler in school. For those children who are able to use their inhaler independently (as detailed in their individual healthcare plan), it is essential that an adult witnesses this.

We ask that all parents and carers please reinforce this message at home. If your child needs to use their inhaler during the school day, they must first inform an adult so that the inhaler use can be supervised and recorded in their asthma log book.

This ensures that we are able to monitor usage carefully and continue to keep all children safe and well in school.

Thank you for your support with this.
