Message from Mrs Dhaliwal

Dear Parent/Carer

As we come to the end of another busy and productive half term, I would like to thank you for your continued support. The children have worked incredibly hard and have shown, time and again, what it means to be Responsible, Respectful and Compassionate. It has been a joy to see their learning flourish and their confidence grow.

A special thank you must go to the Friends of Coalbrookdale for organising the recent school disco. It was a fantastic evening and thoroughly enjoyed by all the children who attended. Events like this do not happen without significant time, planning and commitment. The Friends give their time entirely on a voluntary basis and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication and ongoing support of our school community.

As we look ahead, we return to school on Monday 23 February, refreshed and ready for the next half term.

In the Christian calendar, we will soon approach Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day), which this year falls on Tuesday 17 February. Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday marks the day before the beginning of Lent, a season of reflection and preparation leading up to Easter.

Lent begins the following day on Ash Wednesday (18 February) and lasts for 40 days (excluding Sundays), leading us to Easter. When we return after half term, we will be exploring this season in Collective Worship and considering themes of reflection, hope and renewal.

We hope you all enjoy a restful half term break, perhaps even sharing a pancake or two together as a family!

Thank you once again for your continued partnership and support.

Kind regards
Mrs M Dhaliwal

NSPCC Number Day

Today the children took part in a range of fun mathematical activities and games, exploring numbers in different ways.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fundraising for the NSPCC – we raised £109.00.

Careers Week – Volunteers needed

We’re getting ready for our upcoming Careers Week beginning 9 March and would love to involve our parent community. If you’re willing to share your job, skills, or career journey with our pupils—whether through a short talk, demonstration, or Q&A—we’d be delighted to hear from you. Every role helps broaden children’s understanding of the world of work and inspire them with future aspirations.

If you’re interested in taking part, please contact the school office or your child’s class teacher by Friday 27 February.

Parent Volunteers – DBS checks

On school trips only parents/carers with a valid DBS check will be permitted to support school staff.

If you would like to volunteer in the future and have not yet completed the DBS process, please contact the school office for guidance on how to apply.

Community News – Health Protection Hub

With half-term approaching you may be considering taking your child/children on a farm visit.

All animals naturally carry a range of bugs, some of which can be transmitted to humans, where they can cause ill health. Some of these, such as E. coli O157 or Cryptosporidium (Crypto), have the potential to cause serious illness which may be particularly severe in young children.  We see many cases of Crypto each year in the Health Protection Hub, particularly among children, and it’s a miserable experience for them and their parents.

Follow these practical steps to help keep your child safe and healthy:

  • avoid touching faces or putting fingers in mouths while in farm environments
  • don’t kiss farm animals or allow children to put their faces close to animals
  • wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after touching animals, fences or other surfaces in animal areas
  • don’t eat or drink while touching animals or walking round the farm and only eat and drink in picnic areas or cafes
  • wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating or drinking
  • remove and clean boots or shoes that might have become soiled and clean pushchair wheels, then wash hands thoroughly with soap and water
  • don’t use gels or wipes instead of washing hands with soap and water – gels and wipes don’t remove E. coli O157 or Crypto
  • supervise children closely to make sure they wash their hands thoroughly
  • if someone in the family has diarrhoea or vomiting after visiting a farm or animal visitor attraction, wash all dirty clothes, bedding and towels in the washing machine on the hottest wash cycle possible. Encourage good hand hygiene after using the toilet, washing hands thoroughly with soap and running water. Clean toilet seats, toilet bowls, flush handles, taps, hand basins and any other areas that might have been soiled with detergent and hot water, rinsing with household disinfectant.  Visit the doctor and explain that they have had recent contact with animals.  Please also contact the attraction you visited and inform them of the illness
