World Religion Day: Faith in Our Future, Hope in Our Future

We celebrated World Religion Day and the children produced some wonderful and thoughtful poems.

Through their RE learning, children explored how our communities are made up of people from many different cultures and beliefs. They reflected on what brings people together such as faith, hope, love, kindness and respect, as well as what can divide communities. The children considered messages from different faiths and worldviews about equality, compassion and challenging racism and intolerance.

The poems shared in this newsletter reflect the empathy, maturity and creativity shown by the children in every class and we are incredibly proud of how thoughtfully they engaged with these important themes.

Thank You – Parents’ Evening

Thank you to all parents who attended Parents’ Evening on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Following pupil progress meetings between staff and myself at the end of the autumn term, it has been lovely to share the progress children have made in so many different ways, as well as their next steps for learning.

Teachers shared a copy of your child’s targets for the spring term for you to take home. Copies of these are also kept in school so if you would ever like another copy or wish to discuss your child’s learning further, please remember that you are always welcome to book an appointment with your child’s class teacher.

KS1 Tennis Festival

On Wednesday, Mrs Bailey and a parent volunteer supported our children at a KS1 tennis competition. The children represented the school brilliantly and did a fantastic job, showing enthusiasm, teamwork and great sportsmanship throughout the festival.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the parent volunteer who supported the trip. Without the support of parent volunteers, opportunities such as these are not always possible and we are very grateful for the time and commitment given to enable our children to take part.

Well done to all the children involved. We are very proud of you.

Parent Survey – Thank You

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our recent parent survey. We really value your feedback and appreciate your honesty and support. A summary of the results will be shared with parents next week.

Behaviour and Wellbeing Update

As part of our commitment to creating a calm, nurturing and supportive environment where all children can flourish, we have been trialling a refined approach to behaviour across the school.

This approach focuses on strong relationships, clear expectations, and supporting children to understand and manage their behaviour positively. We have already seen very encouraging improvements in consistency, behaviour and the learning environment for our children.

We wanted to share a parent-friendly summary of our behaviour approach so that you are aware of the principles that guide our work with children each day. This reflects our commitment to working in partnership with families and ensuring that children feel safe, valued and supported.

We truly value the strong relationships we have with our parents and carers and this week has been a wonderful example of how working together supports children to thrive. From Parents’ Evening to your thoughtful feedback through the parent survey, your involvement plays an important part in helping us continue to grow and improve. We are always striving to be better and to ensure the very best for our children.

It’s hard to believe that we are already midway through this half term and we have some important events coming up over the next few weeks. Please do take a moment to check the dates listed below to ensure you don’t miss anything.

Parish News – St Luke’s Ironbridge: service this Sunday 25th January 2026

St Luke’s Ironbridge would like to invite people to a service of Holy Communion this Sunday, 25th January.

There will also be a Jesus and Me (JAM) session at the red activity tables within the church: children and families are welcomed to come along, so that children can take part in creative activities related to the theme.

Readings
Old Testament – Isaiah 9:1-4
Gospel – Matthew 4:12-23

From the Gospel reading, we hear about Jesus calling his first disciples.

Jesus Calls His First Disciples
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

We will be decorating and colouring fish shapes and pictures to help us to think about the above reading. There are also books and toys available for younger children to play with in the church.

We hope to see children and their families there, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.
