End of Spring Term Message
As we come to the end of a very busy and successful Spring term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on all that has been achieved across our school community. It has been wonderful to see the children continue to make such strong progress in their learning and we look forward to sharing this with you in the first few weeks of the Summer term.
This time of year brings with it an important message of hope, renewal and new beginnings. It has been lovely to see the children exploring this through our worship and learning and reflecting on what it means in their own lives.
A special well done must go to our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils, who led our Easter service at church with such confidence and maturity. They represented the school beautifully and we are incredibly proud of them.
I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Friends of Coalbrookdale and our staff team for organising and supporting the Easter fair today. We’re looking forward to a fantastic event that we know the children will thoroughly enjoy and that will be a great success for our school community.
This week has been particularly exciting, with a range of out-of-school events taking place. Well done to all our pupils who took part in the cross-country events, especially those who achieved top finishing positions. We are very proud of your determination and effort.
Another highlight was the Telford Sings event on Wednesday evening. Our children performed brilliantly in front of a large audience, and it was a pleasure to accompany them alongside Miss Ralley and Miss Stackhouse. They truly did themselves and the school proud.
As we reach the end of term, we also say goodbye to Miss Nisbet. She has been a key member of our staff team and has supported the school greatly on our improvement journey. We thank her for all she has given to our school and wish her every success for the future. We hope to see her again.
We would also like to wish Miss Ralley all the very best for her upcoming wedding over the Easter holidays. What a lovely way to celebrate this special time of year.
Finally, I would like to thank all our parents and carers for your continued support and for working so closely with us. Your partnership makes a real difference and helps us to make each term a success for the children.
Wishing you all a peaceful and enjoyable Easter break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for the Summer term.

Eco Council News
As we end the term I’ like to say another big well done to Eco council who have been working alongside me with lots of ideas to bring to the summer term.
One key thing we want to highlight to you as we break up for some well-earned rest is the importance of recycling. Every year, 80 million Easter eggs are purchased in the UK, and it is estimated that 5,672 tonnes of packaging will be binned. This means that UK Easter egg sales could generate 512 tonnes of plastic, equivalent to 1,408 tonnes CO₂, 4,960 tonnes of cardboard, the same weight as 2,480,000 bunnies, 184 tonnes of foil, which could have a combined scrap value of as much as £59,000.
Beyond your normal branded Easter eggs there are options where packaging has been carefully chosen to eliminate this amount of waste. Choosing an egg which is not wrapped in foil is a great way of reducing the amount of it thrown in the bin. How about asking the Easter bunny for a reusable Easter egg which is filled with your favourite chocolates or sweets, these could then be used during fun Easter egg hunts or even saved for next year.
Below are some great top tips for ensuring we all play our part this Easter in recycling and reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfill.
1. Easter egg packaging
If you can, choose Easter eggs that come in less packaging, or at least in recyclable packaging – there’s a lot more of it around these days!
Inevitably, you’re still likely to end up with a large quantity of cardboard boxes and possibly some plastic trays. Easter egg boxes and plastic trays can go in your kerbside recycling for collection, but remember to flatten them to save space.
Good to know
If you recycle your empty Easter egg boxes, there’s a good chance that they can be transformed into new toilet roll tubes – and that’s not all.
Easter egg boxes are made from recycled cardboard and can be turned into lots of other items such as cereal boxes, fresh egg boxes, delivery parcels and so much more. So, remember to recycle them!
2. Easter egg foil
Many Easter eggs come wrapped in pretty foil, which many people aren’t sure whether they can recycle. Happily, you can!
Simply scrunch the foil into a loose ball along with any other bits of used foil (including from smaller eggs) and pop it into your normal recycling bin for collection. If it springs back open when you try to scrunch it, this means it’s laminated and should go in your general rubbish bin.
3. Gift basket wrapping and sweet wrappers
If you’ve received an Easter gift basket wrapped in plastic cellophane, this wrapping, unfortunately, can’t go into your main recycling bin in most parts of the country (though they’re working on this!). The same goes for plastic sweet wrappers.
However, all is not lost! You can take them all to a local supermarket for recycling along with plastic bags and other types of wrapping.
4. Easter food
Easter is a time when, a bit like Christmas, there’s a lot of food around the house that can easily go to waste if we’ve overestimated how much we’re going to need. Of course, there are lots of tasty ways to use up surplus Easter food – head over to our friends at Love Food Hate Waste for some delicious Easter leftovers inspiration.

But what about the food waste you can’t eat, such as egg shells (not the chocolate kind!) or the base of a lettuce? These can go in your food waste caddy, if you have one, and you can also refer to our advice on recycling inedible food waste for more on what you can recycle.

Parish News – Easter at St Luke’s Ironbridge
A very warm welcome from St Luke’s to children and families and friends to come and join us, as we prepare for and celebrate Easter.
We will be opening our doors at 1000am on Good Friday, 3rd April, for a morning of family crafts and activities until noon.
There will be refreshments and Easter chocolates. Come along with your children, pop in for anything from ten minutes to the two hours, and share the morning with us.
There is a large disability accessible toilet and baby changing facilities as well.
St Luke’s will be staying open after that for the afternoon, so that people may come in and take the opportunity for quiet reflections, and light candles, etc.

Community News – Children’s show “”A Noise Annoys
“A Noise Annoys” is an uplifting hour of playful poetry, silly songs and fun interaction for children aged 6+ and their families. It’s perfect for engaging children with the National Year of Reading, and it’s performed by poet and three-time slam winner Jude Simpson, of whom Michael Rosen said:
“Jude Simpson is funny, sharp, emotional in her work, and a terrific performer. She should be seen and heard wherever possible.”
“A Noise Annoys” has been nominated for “Best Kids Show” at the Leicester Comedy Festival 2026, and a review by The Family Stage said:
“Simpson’s poetry is fantastically funny and her love of language is infectious. For adults and children alike, it’s practically impossible to leave A Noise Annoys without a smile on your face.”
This is a really entertaining show for the whole family and will help children enjoy language and experiment with words, so it gets a thumbs up from English teachers too! Jude worked alongside students with learning disabilities while developing the show and has found that adults and children with additional needs find the performances inclusive and enjoyable. More detailed information about accessibility is available on request to help parents and carers decide whether it’s a good choice for their child.
“A Noise Annoys” appears at The Wakes, Oakengates, Telford on 29th March at 2pm, and at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre at 10.30am on Monday March 30th: Details and ticket links here: https://artsalive.co.uk/events/jude-simpson-a-noise-annoys/
