Message from Mrs Dhaliwal

What an amazing week we have had at Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge!

Firstly, we enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day on Tuesday. The weather was perfect – cloudy but warm – and the children had a fabulous time. It was wonderful to see so many of our school values in action throughout the day. Children showed each other compassion and respect, demonstrated great perseverance, and showed trust and responsibility in their teams and activities.

A huge thank you to Mrs Marshall for organising the event and to all the staff for their excellent management on the day. Thank you also to the Friends of Coalbrookdale, who supported by providing a portaloo, enabling us to hold a whole school event comfortably. The children were thrilled to receive their medals back at school, kindly provided by Friends of Coalbrookdale. Thank you to Mrs Hartlebury for her support in planning and resourcing the equipment, and to all the parents who came along to cheer on the children. I am already looking forward to next year’s sports day!

On Wednesday, we celebrated World Cultures Day, which was a great success. A huge thank you to Miss Pearson for organising this wonderful experience for the children. It was lovely to see children dressed in their country flag colours or traditional clothing, and so heartwarming to hear their stories about their backgrounds. The pride with which they spoke about their heritage was inspiring. Children especially enjoyed tasting foods from around the world, which gave them the chance to explore different cultures through flavour and discussion. We are also incredibly grateful to the Multicultural Development Team at Telford & Wrekin Council for providing resources that helped to further enhance the children’s learning and understanding throughout the day.

Our school data shows only a small snippet of our community’s ethnicities, but we discovered on the day that we actually have 15 cultures represented within our school. What a wonderfully diverse community we are! Thank you to all the parents who supported this day and to the children who brought in items from home to share. We look forward to deepening our understanding of each other even further in the future.

Thank you also to all the parents who attended the RSE parent consultation on Wednesday after school. It is always great to hear your thoughts and ideas to support our curriculum development.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who visited the book fair this week. Thanks to your support and book purchases, we have secured £400 worth of book money for the children. These books will be carefully selected to enhance the curriculum taught in classes and to further instil a love of reading across the school.

It has been wonderful to see our parent and school relationships thriving this week. The way we have come together in support of our children and school community has been truly heartening.

Looking ahead, we have some key events taking place next week that we are really excited about.

On Tuesday 8th July, we will be holding Move Up Morning. During this time, children will spend the morning in their new classes, getting to know their teachers and the staff who will be supporting them next year. This will be a great opportunity to begin building new relationships, explore what to expect, and discuss all the exciting learning and experiences to come. We recognise that change can be challenging, and we are committed to ensuring that every child feels supported through a careful and thoughtful transition. Over the remaining weeks of term, children will have further opportunities to continue strengthening these new relationships, helping them feel confident and ready for the year ahead.

On Sunday 6th July, a group of our children will be attending Wimbledon, accompanied by school staff. This is a wonderful opportunity and an exciting experience for them – keep an eye out on the television for any potential sightings of our Coalbrookdale children in the crowd!

On Thursday 10th July, the Friends of Coalbrookdale have kindly organised a school disco for all children. The event will take place in the hall, with the KS1 disco running from 1:00 – 1:45pm, and the KS2 disco from 2:00 – 3:00pm. Children should come to school in their usual uniform but are welcome to bring a change of clothes if they would like to get changed before the disco. We will make sure that all changing arrangements are appropriate and in line with our safeguarding requirements.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Friends News

The Friends of Coalbrookdale would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets in advance and took them home to sell to family and friends as well as everyone who attended the fair on Friday. As you would have seen we made some changes this year by adding several free entertainment areas for the children. We wanted to make the focus of the fair this year on fun rather than profit. With that said we still raised an amazing £901.64 in profit.

We hope to hold a couple more uniform sales before the end of term and will have our left-over drinks and snacks with us. We will let you know dates via seesaw.

As a thank you to all the children for their hard work fundraising this year we have arranged with the school for a Friends funded in school time disco next Thursday, 10 July.

Next school year we have some amazing fundraising activities planned as well as some Friends funded activities for all the children to enjoy. If you would like to get involved or have any ideas how we can tweak future fairs please let one of us know. We hope you know who we are by now as we talk about Friends a lot 😁.

The next Friends meeting will be our AGM in the autumn. We will advise a date in the new school year.

School Disco – 10 July

End of Term Events

Open afternoon – Monday 14 July (3.20pm – 4.00pm):  Monday 14 July is an opportunity for children to show their parents and families what they have been doing in their classrooms this year, with a chance to say goodbye to their current teachers and take them to see their new classroom too.

Leavers’ Performance – Wednesday 16 July:  Year 6 will be putting on a performance of The Wrong Way Round on Wednesday 16 July in the school hall starting at 6.00pm.  Parents and families of Year 6 children are invited to attend.

Children should arrive for 5.30pm to allow them time to get ready.

Leavers Service – Thursday 17 July:  We will be holding a Leavers’ Service for our Year 6 class on Thursday 17July at Holy Trinity Church, Coalbrookdale.  All children will attend, and we would like to invite the parents of the Year 6 children as well.

The service will start at 2.00pm and will last approximately an hour.

All children will walk back to school in time for the end of the day

Online Gaming

Some parents have raised concerns about inappropriate talk and play that has been inspired by online gaming.

These online games often have age ratings above the age of many of the children in our school.

Children are then sharing the content of these games in discussions and play which is causing some upset for children.

Please take a few moments to read through the information provided below. It offers support and guidance for parent with age ratings.

Ageratings for parents

There is also a link and information poster specifically for Fortnite which has been mentioned in school a number of times recently.

https://www.childnet.com/blog/what-do-i-need-to-know-about-fortnite-a-guide-for-parents-and-carers/

Please see a small extract from the information on Fortnite below:

The 12 rating is because of in-game violence and, in the Fortnite Festival experience, bad language and sexual lyrics in the songs a player might hear.

If you need any further support or guidance, please do ask a member of staff.

Online Safety – Parental Controls Booklet 2025

The link below will help you set up parental controls and adjust privacy settings to provide your child with a safer online environment.

Parental controls can help to protect your child from seeing something that they shouldn’t — although it is important to emphasise that no system is effective all of the time, so it is important to engage with your child and talk to them about their online life regularly.

Water Safety

This week the children have had an important message on water safety. While water play is lots of fun, it can also bring some dangers. The children have had time to consider what hazards might be around bodies of water that they are playing in and consider how they should respond to these.

The attached poster has been shared with children along with the four rules of water safety. Please share these again at home with the children so they can enjoy their water play this holiday and keep themselves safe.
