Sports Day – Tuesday 1 July – Important Information
We’re looking forward to our whole school Sports Day, which will take place on the Regatta Field on Tuesday 1 July, with events starting at 9:30am and finishing at approximately 11:30am.
Children will take part in a range of activities in their school Houses:
Gorge (Green)
Severn (Blue)
Wrekin (Red)
Bridge (Yellow)
If your child has a t-shirt in their house colour, we’d love them to wear it on the day. If not, we will provide coloured badges or bands so that all children feel part of their House team. If you are unsure of your child’s house, please speak to their class teacher or contact the school office.
Please access the field through the steps on Dale End Park. The Friends of Coalbrookdale have supported the school by organising a toilet to be available for the children on park site.
There will be an area for spectators to watch as the children move around the field competing in different events followed by year group races. Due to the children being on a public site for Sports Day, we will ask that parents and family members remain in the designated parent area so that staff are able to maintain safeguarding vigilance and practice throughout.
With warmer weather expected, we ask that all children come to school wearing a hat, with sunscreen already applied, and a refillable water bottle. Staff will be ensuring that children stay hydrated throughout the morning, and we’ll be monitoring the temperature carefully to keep everyone safe.
If the weather forecast is not favourable, we may need to postpone Sports Day in the interest of safety. A final decision will be made and communicated to parents by Monday 30 June. Our reserve date is Thursday 3 July.
Thank you for your continued support – we’re looking forward to a fun and active morning!

Summer Fair – Friday 27 June

Parents are welcome to collect their child from school at 3.00pm, which will mark the official start of the fair. We hope you’ll be able to join us for an afternoon of fun, games and community celebration.
Our wonderful Friends of Coalbrookdale team have been working extremely hard behind the scenes to make this a truly enjoyable and successful event – we’re so grateful for their dedication and support.
To help support the fair, we will be holding a mufti day on Wednesday 25th June. Children are invited to wear their own clothes in return for a bottle the bottle tombola (eg. fizzy drinks, bubble bath, shower gel, wine or beer).
For children attending wraparound care, they will still have the chance to enjoy the fair. If parents are unable to attend, children can bring a small amount of money in a sealed, named envelope, and they will be supported to visit the fair under the supervision of wraparound staff.
We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Flag Design Competition – Represent Telford and Wrekin
Telford & Wrekin Council has launched an exciting flag design competition for all children in Reception through to Year 10 — and we’d love our pupils to get involved!
Children are invited to create a bold and simple flag design that celebrates what makes our borough special. This could include iconic features like Ironbridge, the Wrekin, or the green spaces we all enjoy. The winning design could become a lasting symbol of pride across the community!
Key details:
- Designs should be no bigger than A4 and created using bold colours (no loose materials).
- Digital designs are also welcome.
- Only one entry per child.
- Each entry must include the child’s name, age, school, and a short description of the design, along with confirmation that a parent/carer agrees to the eligibility criteria.
Prize:
The winning design will receive £250 in art and craft materials for their school, courtesy of Telford Live.
Children who would like to take part should bring their completed designs into school by Thursday 10th July, so we can make sure they are submitted on time.
Let’s get creative and celebrate what makes our community unique!

Parish News: Service at St Luke’s this Sunday
This Sunday 22nd June, there will be a service of Holy Communion at St Luke’s, starting at 11.00a.m.
Readings
Isaiah 65:1-9
Luke 8:26 – 39
For our associated Jesus and Me (JAM) activity for school age children, we will be thinking in particular about the part in Isaiah where God says “ Here am I, here am I” to people who have not called for him and are not looking for him.
In our own efforts to be the visible church in the community, we are looking forward to a summer picnic and praise service in Dale End Park, next Sunday 29th June, 1100 to 1130. We will be there either side of this time, and during this time, looking forward to seeing all the visitors who come in for the Regatta as well as local people.
The children will therefore be getting welcome banners and cards ready for this occasion.
We will be seated in the children’s area to the side of the church, at red activity tables.
We hope to see children and their families here, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.
Hymns
- Ye Servants of God, your Master proclaim hymn 756
- Lord Jesus, think on me hymn 412 (1,2,3 and last)
- And can it be that I should gain hymn 32
- Judge eternal, throned in splendour hymn 372
Community News – Water Safety
The Health Protection Hub at Telford & Wrekin Council have asked us send out some information to you on summer water safety. With the current hot weather, children, particularly older children, may look to go swimming in open water to cool down and have fun. This comes with various risks – cold water shock, currents, hidden underwater dangers and diseases such as Weil’s disease. 46% of drownings occur in the summer months and this rises to 75% amongst 13 – 17-year-olds. Educating children on these dangers is important in preventing tragic incidents.
The Royal Life Saving Society and the Canal & River Trust have some good resources with more information on this to discuss with your children:

Community News – Telford Rugby Club
Over the summer, Telford Hornets Rugby Club are running free weekly sessions for children who will be in years 2 and 3 when they return to school in September.
These sessions focus on teaching basic tag (non-contact) rugby skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and general sports and exercise skills. As we move onward into September and the Rugby Union season starts we continue our rugby skills training and start playing weekly friendly matches against other under 7’s and under 8’s teams in the local area. It’s a fantastic opportunity to build skills, make friends from other schools and learn a new sport. All of our coaches and helpers are DBS checked and have training in safeguarding and concussion awareness, as well as having a trained first aider at every session.
There are also free summer sessions. During the “off season” (June, July and August) there are FREE weekly tag rugby sessions until match season in September.

Community News – Measles
Cases of measles are increasing in the UK, including in the West Midlands, and it’s possible that there will be cases in Telford in the near future.
Measles is a viral illness that can be serious and sometimes fatal. Spending 15 minutes with someone with measles is enough to get the virus. Symptoms of measles include high fever, runny nose, cough, red and watery eyes, small red spots with a bluish-white centre inside the mouth. A rash can appear later, usually on the face, upper neck, hands and feet, fading after 5 to 6 days. If you’ve not been vaccinated against measles you can be at risk, but it’s most common in young children. Someone with measles can spread the virus up to 4 days before a rash appears, and up to 4 days after.
Measles can have serious and sometimes fatal consequences, so make sure you and your children are up to date with MMR vaccinations, and ask your GP about catch-up jabs if needed. The MMR vaccine is highly effective at protecting against measles.
If you are unsure if your child is up to date with all their routine vaccinations you can check their Red Book (personal child health record) in the first instance. If you are still not sure, or if you need to bring your child up to date with their vaccines, you should contact their GP practice to check and book an appointment.
If you are concerned that your child has measles, please call your GP in the first instance, to reduce the risk of passing the disease to others in the waiting room. More information on measles can be found here and information on the MMR vaccine can be found here .
