A Fantastic Start to the Half Term!

We’ve had a fantastic and very busy first week back after the half term break. It’s been wonderful to see the children so engaged in their learning as they’ve begun exploring a range of exciting new topics across the school. The children have really enjoyed making scarecrows this week in preparation for the Coalbrookdale Open Gardens event and our scarecrows have been put up outside school for all to enjoy. A big thank you to Friends of Coalbrookdale for supporting school with hay and also a thank you to parents who donated items for scarecrow making.

Next week, teachers will share our updated half-termly curriculum overviews. We’ve recently made some changes to our planning to ensure learning is as engaging and inspiring as it can be, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the impact of these developments in the weeks ahead.

This week, our Year 6 children attended their residential visit to Arthog. For some, this may have been their first time away from family, and we are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school. They consistently modelled our school values while away and, no doubt, developed some amazing skills and created memories they will cherish for years to come. A big thank you to the staff who supported the children throughout the trip and helped make it such a success.

We’ve also welcomed visitors into school this week from both the local authority and the Diocese of Hereford. They were incredibly impressed by the children – not only in their learning, but also in the way they demonstrated our school values through their behaviour, manners, and attitudes. The children were a real credit to us all.

We are currently in the process of finalising staffing for September and hope to be able to inform you of your child’s class teacher by the end of next week. Following this, we will begin our transition work to ensure all children are fully prepared for their next stage of learning and feel confident and supported as they move forward.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement – it really does make all the difference.

Wishing you a restful weekend.

Home – School Communication

As a school, we greatly value open, respectful communication with our families and are committed to working in partnership with you. It has recently been brought to our attention that some negative discussions about the school have been shared within parent WhatsApp groups. While we understand these are private spaces, we would encourage any concerns or queries to be raised directly with school, in line with our Home-School Communication Policy.

We are always here to listen and respond constructively. By working together, we can ensure any issues relating to your child are addressed promptly and appropriately.

Some parents have also shared that the tone of some online conversations has affected their wellbeing. We regularly talk to the children about being respectful online, choosing kind words and considering how their actions affect others. As adults, it’s important we model the same behaviours and uphold the values we promote in school.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a positive and respectful school community.

School Photos

Next Wednesday (11 June) the school photographer will be in to take class photos.

If your child has PE next Wednesday, they should come to school dressed in their school uniform and bring PE kit with them to change in to.

Pentecost Service – Wednesday 11 June

Year 5 will be celebrating Pentecost at Holy Trinity Church, Coalbrookdale next Wednesday, 11 June.  All school children will attend, and we would like to invite parents/carers to join us.  If you can walk to church with your child’s class please let their class teacher know.

The service will start at 2.00pm.

All children will walk back to school and should be collected as normal at the end of the day.

Wraparound Care

If your child will not be attending their pre-booked afternoon session, please inform the school office as soon as possible. This helps us ensure all children are accounted for and safe.

The following are the theme, readings and songs:

Theme: Unity in Diversity

Children are welcome to either sit at the tables, or sit with their families in pews.

We hope to see children and their families there, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.

Community News – Children with Disabilities Register

The Children with Disabilities Register is a confidential list of names and basic information about children with disabilities, special or additional needs.

The Children Act 1989 requires all local authorities to establish a register of children with a disability in their area. This will then be used for statistical information and to assist service planning to meet the needs of children with disabilities and their families, such as plans for accessible homes, SEND school places, inclusive community-based activities, and inclusive council services, to name but a few.

The information held on the register is confidential and stored on our secure database. Statistical data may be shared with partners to inform local planning. No personal, identifiable data will be shared without consent
