Message from Mrs Dhaliwal

As we come to the end of a very busy and successful half term, I want to take a moment to celebrate all that the children have achieved. It has been wonderful to see the progress they are making in their learning, as well as the enthusiasm and determination they bring to school each day.

This half term has been packed with opportunities beyond the classroom too. From sporting events to enrichment activities, our pupils have represented the school with pride and achieved so much. What has been particularly special is seeing our school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Compassion reflected not just in school, but in the way our children conduct themselves in the wider community during sporting and extra-curricular events.

Looking ahead, we have a busy and exciting final half term of the school year. Please take a moment to check the key dates for upcoming events, which can be found on our website and in this newsletter.

We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 2nd June, and in the meantime, I wish all our families a safe, restful, and happy half term break.

Ice Cream van

Thank you to Friends for organising the ice cream van this week.

Sport News

This week children from Years 3 – 6 were representing the school at a variety of sporting competitions.

Tuesday saw some of our Year 5/6 6 Girls playing at the T&W Kwik Cricket Festival at St George’s Cricket Club, playing well together as a team, supporting each other throughout the day.

On Wednesday we had two teams playing at the Golfway Festival.  Congratulations to the Year 3/4 team who came 2nd overall and the Year 6 team who came third.

And finally, our Year 5/6 Tag Rugby team represented Telford & Wrekin at the School Games Small Schools Tag Rugby Primary School County Finals held in Shrewsbury.

Golden Table

This week, the Learning Council have introduced the Golden Table. They have really hard organising the table and what will be on it, getting pupil voice from their classes and delivering this new initiative to the school in Collective Worship.

Children will have the opportunity to be able to sit at the golden table if they are:

  • Showing school values in dinner hall.
  • Sitting properly at the table.
  • Talking with your friends quietly.
  • Using table manners.

Staff in the hall at lunchtimes will be looking out for children showing our school values and one child from each class will be awarded a golden ticket and get to sit on the golden table on a Friday. Children awarded golden tickets will then be on the lookout for another child in their class who is also showing our school values in the dinner hall, and they will join them at the Golden Table on the Friday.

Service at St Luke’s this Sunday

This Sunday 25th May, there will be a service of Holy Communion at St Luke’s, starting at 11.00a.m.

In our associated Jesus and Me (JAM) activity for school age children, we will be thinking in particular about the reading we will hear from the Acts of the Apostles, in which Paul is called in a dream to travel by sea from Greece to Macedonia, to the town of Philippi. Here, he was expecting to meet a man, but finds himself talking to women by the river, including a woman called Lydia, who sells purple cloth. She hears his words, is baptised, and asks Paul and his companions to come and stay with her family.

The overall theme is ‘When it’s not plain sailing’

We will be thinking of the difficult journeys Paul made, like this one, and the anchors that helped him, just as they help us; families, friends, companions, as well as people of the churches he went to and the churches he helped to establish.

We have anchor cut outs to colour, and journeys to draw: including ones we have made already where perhaps something unexpected happened, as it did with Paul. Children may also like to draw the people who are their anchors in life.

We will be seated in the children’s area to the side of the church, at red activity tables.  There are books and toys available for younger children to play with in the church as well.

We hope to see children and their families here, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.
