Year 6 SATs – Starting Monday 12 May 2025
Next week is SATs week for our Year 6 pupils, running from Monday through Thursday. Each morning, the children will sit their Key Stage 2 tests (covering English and Maths). Please mark your calendars: the tests will start on time each day from Monday to Thursday, so punctuality is important.
How You Can Support Your Child:
- Early to Bed: Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep before each test day so they feel rested and alert.
- A Hearty Breakfast: A message has gone out to parents about an earlier school start so children can enjoy breakfast in school with their peers before tests begin. If your child would prefer to have breakfast at home, that is fine too.
- Arrive on Time: Make sure your child arrives at school no later than 8.40am. Tests will begin at 9.00am. A calm, unhurried morning helps them start the day in a positive frame of mind.
Most importantly, please reassure your child that SATs are just one part of their learning journey. The children have been working hard in class, and we are already so proud of them. These tests are not something to worry about – they simply help show what children have learned in primary school. Encourage your child to do their best but remind them that there is no pressure. Every child is different, and SATs results won’t capture all the wonderful qualities that make them who they are.
Thank you for your support and understanding. With a good night’s sleep, a hearty breakfast, and plenty of encouragement, our Year 6 pupils will be ready to shine! Let’s make sure they feel confident and calm throughout the week. Good luck to all our Year 6s – we believe in you!
Temporary Pause to Forest School Sessions
We wanted to let you know that that, for the time being, we will be pausing our Forest School sessions.
As part of our regular site checks, we have identified a few areas that need to be looked at more closely to ensure they remain safe for the children to use.
We know how much the children enjoy Forest School, and we will resume as soon as the necessary checks have been completed, and the site is confirmed as safe for use.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Smartphone Free Childhood
We have recently been asked by a parent to share information about the Smartphone Free Childhood campaign. As a school, we are committed to promoting children’s wellbeing and keeping them safe both in and out of school. With growing concerns around online safety, exposure to inappropriate content, and the impact of screen time on mental health, we recognise the importance of open conversations about the role of smartphones in childhood.
While we understand every family has different needs and circumstances, we support parents in making informed decisions that prioritise children’s safety, development, and wellbeing.
Smartphone Free Childhood is a movement encouraging parents to agree not to give their children smartphones until at least year nine. The more awareness there is of the harm smartphones can have on children’s mental health the less peer pressure there will be. The smartphone free childhood webpage also has lots of resources to help educate children and parents on the topic too.

News from the parish: family worship at St Luke’s this Sunday
This Sunday 11th May, St Luke’s Ironbridge would like to welcome children and their families to a Family Worship service, 11am to 12 noon.
This week’s readings are from:
Acts 9: 36-43
Rev 6: 9 – end
John 10: 22-35
Psalm 23
The themes that come out are God as healer and shepherd whose sheep hear His voice, are known by God, and follow Him to springs of living water.
In our activity, we will decorate shepherd crook cut outs in order to help us to think about God as our shepherd.
We will also have the chance to draw and colour our own peaceful scenes of rivers and valleys, reflecting on the verse “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”
This will be at the red activity tables at the side of the church.
Children are welcome to either sit at the tables, or sit with their families in pews.
There are also books and toys available for younger children to play with in the church.
We hope to see children and their families there, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.
