Welcome Back to a New Term at Coalbrookdale
Happy New Year, and welcome back! What a brilliant start it has been to the new year. The children have settled back into school life wonderfully, and learning has resumed straight away. It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and excitement about the new topics they are exploring this term.
This week we have welcomed Mr Johnson and Miss Ralley as the new teachers for Year 6 and Year 3. We hope you will make them feel welcome and part of our school community.
Today, your child will be bringing home two important documents:
- A copy of their learning overview for this half-term, providing insight into what is being taught in each subject area.
- A summary sheet of their homework and suggestions for how you can support their learning at home.
We hope you find these helpful in staying informed about your child’s education.
We will also keep you updated on class developments and share good news stories on a weekly basis through class Seesaw and the school website. These updates are a wonderful way to celebrate the children’s achievements and keep you connected to their learning journey.
Following the gathering of children’s views and opinions, we are excited to share that we’ve made an update to how we celebrate and recognise the school values. Instead of the values postcards, we are now using values stickers, which children earn and add to their individual rewards charts. This new system allows us to track and celebrate the values each child has displayed over time, creating a clearer picture of their achievements and growth. Once completed, children will bring these home to share with you too.
This term, our school value is Respect. We will be focusing on showing respect to everyone in our school community—whether adults or children—and fostering a culture of kindness and understanding. We encourage you to discuss this value at home and join us in promoting respect in all areas of life.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are looking forward to a positive and successful term ahead!
Invitation to Upcoming Parent Coffee Mornings
At Coalbrookdale, we greatly value your feedback and recognise how vital communication between school and home is in ensuring the success and well-being of our children. To foster open dialogue and strengthen our partnership, we are pleased to invite you to the following coffee mornings:
• Thursday 16th January (9:00-9:30 am): Open to all parents and carers.
• Thursday 23rd January (9:00-9:30 am): A SEND coffee morning for parents and carers of children with SEND.
These informal sessions provide an opportunity for us to connect, discuss school-related topics, and share any ideas or concerns you may have.
To ensure a productive and respectful environment, we kindly ask that all attendees maintain positive and constructive conduct during these meetings. This will help us create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable to participate.
If you would like to attend, please confirm your attendance by emailing the office so we can plan accordingly and ensure sufficient space and refreshments.
We look forward to welcoming you and continuing to work together to support our children’s education and well-being.
School Census – Change to Dinner menu – Thursday 16 January
There will be a change to the dinner menu next Thursday (16 January) on School Census Day. The kitchen will be serving Big Breakfast. Bacon and pork sausage, vegetarian sausage, hash browns, baked beans, plum tomatoes, mushrooms, seasonal salad selection, homemade bread followed by a muffin, yoghurt or fresh fruit.
Alternatively, you can pre-order a sandwich (ham, cheese, tuna mayo or egg mayo) for your child (please contact the school office).
The Government determines part of a school’s funding based on the number of KS1 children (Reception, Year 1 & Year 2) who have a dinner on census day (Thursday, 16 January). It is important that we have as many children as possible having their free school meal on this day. We will only receive the full amount of funding if this is the case. As you are aware school budgets are tight so we need to claim all the money that could be ours.
Drum Lessons
DCP Drums currently run drum lessons in school on Friday afternoons. They currently have some spaces – if you would like to sign your child up please visit Drum Lessons

News from the parish family worship at St Luke’s Ironbridge
This Sunday 12th January, St Luke’s Ironbridge would like to welcome children and their families to a Family Worship service , 11am to 12 noon.
The reading is taken from St Luke’s Gospel, chapter 3, verses 15-17 and 21-22
In this reading, we learn about the baptism of Jesus, and of many others, by his cousin John the Baptist.
The theme is therefore: “Meeting Jesus and each other in the Water of Life’s Challenges”.
To link in with this theme, there will be colouring and decorating activities for children, at the red activity tables at the side of the church.
Children are invited to colour in doves and to write their names with Jesus in water drop shapes to symbolise baptism.
Children are welcome to either sit at the tables or sit with their families in pews.
There are also books and toys available for younger children to play with in the church.
We hope to see children and their families there, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.
The songs are:
1. Crown Him with many Crowns
2. In Christ alone
3. Hosanna (action song)
4. O thou who camest from above
