Welcome Home Card Competition

We have been contacted by David Wilson Homes about an exciting opportunity for our children to take part in a “Welcome Home” card competition.

The task is simple: children are invited to create a colourful A4 portrait design that says “Welcome Home” on the front, with drawings or paintings that show moving into a new home and the local Ironbridge area. These designs will be made into cards and included in the welcome packs for new residents at the Otters Reach development in Ironbridge.

Please make sure your child’s name and age are written clearly on the back of their entry.

All entries should be handed in to school by Friday 10th October 2025.

Healthy Snacks and Lunches

We have noticed that some children are bringing a number of unhealthy snacks into school. As part of our commitment to supporting healthy lifestyles and to ensure children have the best fuel for learning, we ask for your cooperation with the following:

A healthy packed lunch should include:

  • A starchy food such as bread, pitta, rice, pasta, potatoes, or wraps
  • A source of protein such as meat, fish, eggs, beans, or lentils
  • A source of calcium such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, or fromage frais
  • At least one portion of fruit and one portion of vegetables or salad
  • One small sweet treat is permitted in lunchboxes but this should not be a chocolate bar or sweets

Packed lunches should not include:

  • Sweets or chocolate bars
  • Fizzy or high-sugar drinks
  • Foods that are high in salt, sugar, or saturated fat

Snacks at breaktime:

  • Only fruit or vegetables are allowed.
  • Crisps, biscuits, chocolate, sweets, and other sugary snacks are not permitted.

Exploring a Healthy Snack Shop

As part of our continued commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, we are also considering introducing a Healthy Snack Shop at morning break. This would provide children with the opportunity to purchase affordable, healthy snacks such as:

  • Fresh fruit (apples, bananas, pears, satsumas)
  • Rice cakes
  • Low-fat cheese cubes with crackers
  • Raisin boxes
  • Yoghurt tubes

The shop would be run on a not-for-profit basis, with prices kept low and proceeds reinvested into the snack shop or wider healthy schools’ initiatives. Staff and older children would supervise the shop to encourage positive choices and responsibility with money.

Next week, our Learning Council will be gathering children’s views on this idea, and we would also like to hear from you as parents and carers. Please take a couple of minutes to complete our short survey below to let us know if this is something your child would use, or if you would prefer to continue providing a healthy snack from home.

By working together, we can:

  • Improve children’s concentration and energy levels
  • Promote positive lifelong eating habits
  • Support their overall health and wellbeing

Thank you for supporting us in making sure lunchtimes and breaktimes remain healthy and enjoyable for all.

Harvest – Wednesday 22 October

Year 2 will be celebrating and performing a Harvest celebration on Wednesday 22 October at Holy Trinity Church, Coalbrookdale.  Children are asked to bring in an item of food (tins, packets, dried goods etc) to school on Tuesday morning.  All donations will be passed on to the Telford Food Bank.

All school children will attend, and we would also like to invite parents/carers to join us.  The service will start at 2.00pm and last approximately 45 minutes.

All children walk back to school and should be collected as normal at the end of the day.  Please ensure your child has their coat for the walk to and from church.

Please note the date for Harvest is WEDNESDAY 22 OCTOBER.  This is a change to what has been in previous newsletters.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

Wraparound Care – Breakfast Club Times

It has been lovely to see so many children joining us for Breakfast Club in the mornings. We are delighted that the provision is supporting families and giving children a positive start to the day.

Just some gentle reminders:

  • Breakfast Club doors open at 7:50am. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept children before this time, as staff will be preparing the provision.
  • The last entry to Breakfast Club is at 8:20am, so please ensure children arrive before this time if they are attending. Children who arrive after this time will enter school at 8:40am when teachers open the school doors to begin the school day.
  • Please can we ask that children do not bring food with them to eat during Breakfast Club. If they have a snack for breaktime, it should remain in their lunchbox or bookbag until needed. This helps us to make sure that breakfast is served fairly to everyone, avoids confusion about what has been provided by school, and supports children with healthy routines and allergies.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping us keep Breakfast Club running smoothly.
