Ironbridge Scarecrow Festival
As we approach this weekend, our fabulous children have been busy building scarecrows to tie in with Coalbrookdale’s Open Gardens this weekend. Each class, along with Kids Club, have contributed to the display across the front of the school. It has been a fantastic opportunity for the school to take part in and I hope that you will join me in celebrating the hard work of our children and the brilliant display they have created.
If you are taking part in the Open Gardens, or going to view them, we would love to see a few pictures with your family with our scarecrows.

School grounds improvements
Over half term the grounds at the back of the school have been developed and improved. This has been possible thanks to Miss Owen applying for grants from the Idverde Community Investment Fund and Maxell Europe along with funding from Telford &Wrekin’s Councillors’ Pride Fund.
The area will be officially opened next week when children will then be free to enjoy it. The area will continue to be developed as part of our outdoor education offer to include a sensory aspect (flowers, willow arch, etc).

Whole School Photograph
It’s time to find a spot on the mantelpiece or a space on the wall as the recent whole school photograph is now available to purchase.
Tempest offer a free “deliver to school” option that is open for approximately 14 days, alternatively, home delivery is available at a cost of £5 postage and packing.
If you need assistance or have any questions regarding placing an order, please call 01736 751555 (option 3) or click on the “contact” button on their website home page (htempest.co.uk) where their team will be happy to help.
Art Days
Over the next few weeks each class will be having an art day as part of a whole school art project. Mrs Lightbody will be working with classes on different aspects of art to create the finished artwork.
Classes will visit the local area (Dale End Park, The Ironbridge) for inspiration on their part of the project during the morning and parents are invited to work with the children in the afternoon. Parents should come to school from 1.15pm.

Let’s get Reading!
Coalbrookdale & Ironbridge Primary School has joined the National Read Aloud Challenge 2024 powered by Fonetti. Throughout the challenge, children engage in independent reading using Fonetti, the read-aloud app. The aim is to enhance reading skills during the summer whilst fostering a genuine passion for reading. As your child progresses through the challenge you will receive weekly updates, and they will earn certificates after reading various milestones. They will also have the opportunity to compete on national leaderboards.
To have free access to the Fonetti app via the National Read-Aloud Challenge, you will need to register on the challenge website using the link https://www.readaloudchallenge.co.uk/join/GGAS-CVBO-7BQC or by scanning the QR Code on the leaflet your child brought home this week.
You can then register an account, where you will then be able to set up a profile for each child wishing to take part in the challenge. You can log your child(ren) into Fonetti at app.fonetti.com to start reading, or if they have a tablet device, download Fonetti from the App Store. This will then give them free access throughout the challenge.

News from the Parish
Holiday Club at St Luke’s
Reverend Okeke and other people from the parish were delighted to welcome children from Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge primary school and from across our patch to the very first church holiday club at St Luke’s in Ironbridge.
This was held on Tuesday 28th May during Whitsun Week. We welcomed 13 children aged 2 up to 15, supported by parents and carers. They all took part in a range of creative activities and took home what we hope were memories as happy as the ones they gave to those who helped.
The holiday club theme was about celebrating the church past and present.
During the morning, children cut out brick shapes and decorated them with their own names, before sticking them onto a large piece of artwork to create a brick wall. The wall was then added to with brick shapes decorated with the names of people who used to live here. In order to find these names, the children became detectives and searched for clues to them around the church. Some were men who fell in battle, such as names of soldiers on war memorials. Some were people who had served as churchwardens, or whose names are remembered on crosses, and through artwork.
The children were brilliant at working out the clues, and equally brilliant at making and decorating playdoh tea-light holders, creating bead bracelets, and planting sunflower seeds in pots to grow at home.
We finished with the story told by St Luke about the first Pentecost, and the song “this little light of mine”. The pictures show the storytelling, and the singing led by Reverend Okeke.
Thank you to everyone who made it such a memorable occasion, particularly Mrs Emma Williams for her support and advice to church leaders with the planning of the day. Above all, thank you to the children.

Family Worship this Sunday
This Sunday, the family worship service is all about the theme of the family of Christ.
The service takes the Bible reading of Mark 3:20-finish. It starts at 11am and finishes at 12 noon with refreshments.
We will think about the families of the men who never came home from the Second World War, whether they fell in the D Day landings that we remember this weekend, or in other theatres of war. Children will also be able to draw and colour in their own families, if they would like to do so, at the red table in the children’s area of the church, or remain in pews with their families.
There will be colouring, books and toys available for younger children.
We hope to welcome families to the service.
