Poetry Competition

From now until Friday 7 June, the children are invited to enter a poetry competition, with the possibility of having the work displayed in an exhibition as part of a wider school art project. The theme of the poetry competition is:

Ironbridge- Then and Now!

Any style of poetry is welcomed! The children can take inspiration from Ironbridge and the local area and its wonderful history including the Industrial Revolution, life as a child in the Industrial Revolution, Coalport, Jackfield and the factories or the Ironbridge itself.

The competition closes Friday 7 June. Any entries should be submitted to the class teacher please. The entries will be judged, and the winning pieces will be announced.

We look forward to reading the amazing entries!

Ironbridge Scarecrow Festival

Each class will be making a scarecrow for the Ironbridge Scarecrow Festival.  We would appreciate donations of old, adult clothes to help us dress the scarecrows and tights to build the scarecrows.  Please speak to your child’s class teacher to see what clothing they need.

News from the Parish

Reverend Okeke was delighted to welcome the children of Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge primary school to the special Pentecost Service at Holy Trinity on Wednesday 22nd May. It was lovely to see the church full of children, and parents and carers too, and Year Five did a beautiful job leading everyone to think about Pentecost.

This Sunday 26th May is a United Communion service at St Luke’s at 11am, including a Jesus and Me (JAM) session for children aged 5 and up. The JAM session will be in the vestry; children will be invited to come in after the first hymn and blessing.

There will be colouring, books and toys available for younger children, within the church. Children in the JAM session will return to their family pews before we share what we have been doing, and sing “All things bright and beautiful”.

We are really looking forward to our JAM session, as the children will be preparing things for the holiday club morning we are holding at the church on Tuesday 28th May. The holiday club theme is all about celebrating the church past and present, through finding the names of people who used to live here, like members of the armed forces whose names are on the war memorials, and through sharing our own names. These will all go into a large piece of artwork to then be on display in the church. Children will be planting sunflower seeds to take away and grow at home, and making tea-lights,  as we think about how to “let our little light shine”.

If anyone is interested in coming to the holiday club, we have a couple of spaces available. Parents or carers would need to stay with their child for the morning, which includes snacks as well as activities. Please make contact with Mrs Lois Dale via the St Luke’s Facebook page. Thank you.

We wish children and their families a wonderful Whitsun Half Term.
