School Uniform

Parents are reminded that with the variable British summer weather we are experiencing children should bring a coat/raincoat into school everyday and royal blue jumper/cardigan.  Children should not wear hoodies.

PE kit should ONLY be worn on days when your child has PE or an after-school club.

PE Kit consists of:

  • shorts or jogging bottoms – black or navy-blue
  • a t-shirt – plain white or navy-blue (or with a school logo)
  • jumper or fleece – white, royal blue or navy-blue
  • trainers

If you have any questions about the guidance, please do not hesitate to contact school or refer to the uniform policy on the website for further information. If there are any extenuating circumstances, which mean you are unable to meet the uniform requirements, you can discuss this with your child’s class teacher or the headteacher.

We have had the following information from the supermarkets on days when they are having sales on school uniform.

Art Days

Next week Year 6 (Tuesday 25 June) and Year 2 (Wednesday 26 June) will have their art days for their part in the whole school art project.  Parents are welcome to join their children in class from 1.15pm.

On Tuesday Year 3 had a fantastic art day with Mrs Lightbody. We went down to the park and sketched how we thought the landscape would look like in the Victorian age, with lots of smoke and ironwork from the industrial age. We then collected slag rocks from by the riverbank and learnt that this was waste product from the factories in the industrial revolution. In the afternoon we had parents in and had an art carousel where we decorated plates in the style of Indian mandala art, scrunched up paper and made it look beautiful again by drawing over the creases with metallic crayons in the style of Japanese Kintsugi, and we designed a train for the school mural. It was a busy but fantastic day for the whole class.

Year 5’s art focus was the buildings of the Gorge. Year 5 started by learning about the history of the buildings in Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge (Georgian, Regency and Victorian) and, using sketch books they had created, went out on a walk to study and sketch the various buildings and landmarks. Focussing on the stained glass that is around the area, the children went on to design their own stained-glass window using PVA glue, black paint and watercolours. In the afternoon, the children created 3D dioramas of various parts of Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge and the Gorge featuring the buildings, structures and landscapes found there.

News from the parish

This Sunday 23rd June there will be a United Communion service at St Luke’s at 11am, including a Jesus and Me (JAM) session for children aged 5 and up. The JAM session will be in the vestry; children will be invited to come in after the first hymn and blessing.

The readings are as follows:

Job 38: 1-11

Gospel Mark 4:35-41

The gospel tells the story of the time that Jesus calmed a storm on the Sea of Galilee. He was in a boat with other boats nearby, and had fallen asleep. A storm blew up, and the waves broke over the boat until it was all but swamped. His disciples were scared and woke him up, saying: “Master, we are sinking!”

He awoke, spoke to the wind, and said to the sea: “Hush! Be still!”. And the wind dropped, and there was a dead calm. He said to the disciples: “Why are you such cowards? Have you no faith even now?”

And they were awestruck.

We need not be awestruck but have faith that Jesus is with us in the storms of life. The children will talk about this story, and we will use blue card to represent the sea, and make little boats.

We are really looking forward to this, and to the linked hymn we will sing at the end when we go back into church to share what we have been doing. The hymn is “Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy”.

There will be colouring, books and toys available for younger children, within the church.

We hope to see children and their families there, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.
