CHANGE OF DATEIronbridge Christmas Light Switch On – Saturday 30 November

We have been advised by the organisers that the Ironbridge Christmas Lights Switch-On has been postponed due to poor weather conditions.

It will now take place on Saturday 30 November.

We would like to extend a big thank you to Ms Beard, who has kindly made lanterns for the children to carry across the Ironbridge in the lantern parade.

News from the Parish

The Christmas Tree Walk at St Luke’s Church Ironbridge is open from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Saturday 23rd November to coincide with the lights switch on: everyone is warmly invited to come up and say hello and have a mince pie with us.

This Sunday 24th November, St Luke’s would then like to welcome children and families of the school, and their friends. It will be a service of Holy Communion for Christ the King Sunday, starting at 11:00am, and will include a Jesus and Me (JAM) activity for school age children.

The readings are:

Daniel 7: verses 9-10; 13-14

John 18: verses 33-37

In the passage from Daniel, we read:

“I saw one like a man, coming with the clouds of heaven; he approached the Ancient in Years and was presented to him. Sovereignty and glory and kingly power were given to him, so that all people and nations of every language should serve him.”

In our Jesus and Me (JAM) session, we will be making Chrismon decorations for the JAM tree, seated in the children’s area amongst the many beautiful trees already decorated for the Christmas Tree Walk.

This will help us to think about Christ the King, with the Chrismons, or Christ Monograms, proclaiming the name and life of Christ.

Chrismons are white or gold, with white the colour for Christmas and innocence, and gold the colour for the glory and majesty of God.

As well as this activity, there are also books and toys available for younger children to play with in the church.

We hope to see children and their families there, and to share refreshments after the service has finished.

Coming up in Advent

The church is also arranging a special Christingle Family Service at 11am on Sunday 8th December.

We look forward to sharing more details soon about services in all our churches we build towards the Christmas Eve Crib Service, and Christmas Day.
