Transition to Secondary School
Moving to secondary school is an exciting milestone in a child’s education. At Coalbrookdale & Ironbridge C.E. Primary School, we work closely with pupils and families to ensure that transition is smooth, supportive and positive.
We are committed to preparing our pupils academically, socially and emotionally so they feel confident and ready for the next stage of their learning journey.
Preparing for Transition
Throughout Year 6, we support children to develop:
- Independence and organisation skills
- Confidence and resilience
- Positive relationships
- Emotional readiness for change
Transition support is woven into daily school life and pastoral care.
Working with Secondary Schools
We work closely with local secondary schools to ensure a smooth handover of information.
This includes:
- Sharing academic and pastoral information
- Supporting additional transition visits where needed
- Communication between staff to ensure continuity of support
Secondary schools provide transition days and induction information directly to families.
Supporting Emotional Wellbeing
We understand that moving to secondary school can bring excitement as well as uncertainty.
We provide:
- Opportunities for pupils to ask questions
- Discussions around change and growth
- Additional support for children who may feel anxious
Where appropriate, we offer enhanced transition support for pupils with SEND or additional needs.
Partnership with Parents
We value open communication with families throughout the transition process.
If you have concerns about your child’s move to secondary school, please speak to your child’s class teacher or the school office.
Looking Ahead
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils and the young people they become. Our aim is that every child leaves us feeling prepared, confident and ready to flourish in the next stage of their education.
