Eating at School
At Coalbrookdale & Ironbridge C.E. Primary School, we believe that healthy eating plays an important role in children’s wellbeing, concentration and readiness to learn.
Lunchtime Arrangements
Lunchtime takes place in two sittings in the school hall.
- Reception and Key Stage 1 children eat first.
- Key Stage 2 children then come into the hall afterwards.
Children having a hot school meal and those bringing a packed lunch eat at the same time within their phase.
To ensure fairness and a positive experience for all pupils, the order of entry for classes is rotated daily.
This structure allows us to maintain a calm, organised and enjoyable lunchtime environment for all children.
School Meals
Hot school meals are available at £3.05 per day.
We operate a computerised pre-payment system. Parents are notified when their child’s dinner account is overdrawn.
Menus are shared in advance so families can see the options available each day. We aim to provide balanced, nutritious meals that children enjoy.
Dietary Requirements
We are committed to ensuring that all children can access school meals safely.
We accommodate dietary requirements, allergies and specific food needs. Parents are encouraged to speak directly with the school office or our school cook to discuss any medical, religious or cultural dietary requirements. Adjustments are made where necessary to ensure children can eat safely and comfortably.
Packed Lunches
Children bringing a packed lunch are encouraged to make healthy choices. In line with our Healthy Eating Policy, we ask that:
- Packed lunches contain balanced, nutritious items
- Fizzy drinks, cans and glass bottles are not brought into school
- Sweets and chewing gum are not brought into school
Nut-Free School
We are a nut-free school.
We ask that parents do not send any products containing nuts, including spreads such as peanut butter or items that may contain nuts.
This is an important safeguarding measure and we appreciate your support in keeping all children safe.
Snacks and Milk
Children may eat a healthy snack at break time. We encourage:
Fresh fruit is provided every morning for children in Reception and Key Stage 1.
Reception Snack Provision
In Reception, healthy snacks are available throughout the day in line with Early Years guidance.
Snack times are supervised by staff to ensure children are safe and supported, while also promoting independence, social development and positive eating habits.
Milk is provided for all children before breaktime.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
Healthy eating is supported through our curriculum, PSHE and daily routines. We encourage children to understand the importance of balanced diets, hydration and physical activity as part of living life in all its fullness.
