Naming school uniform

Please ensure all items brought to school are named. This includes school uniform, coats, PE kit, shoes, trainers’, school bags and lunch boxes. Any items put in lost property without a name will be sent for recycling at the end of each term.

Forgotten Items

Office staff cannot contact parents during the school day for forgotten PE kit, reading books, swimming kits, musical instruments etc. Parents will still be contacted if pupils have forgotten their packed lunches.

School Dinner Menu

A copy of the school dinner menu can be found on the school website (Office \ School Dinner Menu).

Children are also able to order sandwiches from the kitchen for their school lunch instead of a hot meal. Children can choose from ham, cheese, tuna mayonnaise or egg mayonnaise on a choice of baguette, wrap or bread (white or brown). They will also be able to choose from either a biscuit or piece of cake; organic yoghurt or fresh fruit; cheese portion or packet of raisins.

Sandwich order forms need to be returned to school by Thursday prior to the week the sandwich is ordered eg. If your child wants sandwiches next week the order form needs to be returned by this Thursday, 7th September. Order forms can be downloaded from the school website (Office \ School Dinner Menu) or are available from the school office.

Dinner Accounts

Could parents please ensure that their child/ren’s dinner account/s are kept in credit at all times to ensure your child receives a school dinner. Please contact the school office if you would like an account balance. If sending cash/cheques into school please ensure they are placed in an envelope with your child’s name, class, amount enclosed and the date on the front and then place in the red letterbox outside the school office. Cheques should be made payable to Telford & Wrekin. Alternatively you can pay online via Telford & Wrekin Council’s website. Please contact the office for further information. School dinners are £2.10 per day.

Free School Meals: Years 3 – 6

Extra funding (Pupil Premium) is given to schools for each child in receipt of Free School Meals. If you think that you are eligible to claim free school meals (see below for eligibility) for your child but have not applied, forms are available from the school office.  Alternatively you can contact Telford & Wrekin Council on 01952 383983 or online at www.telford.gov.uk/fsm. Funding is important to us as a school in order to maintain the level of support children receive in school.

Free School Meals: Reception – Year 2

All children who are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 will be offered a free healthy school lunch. However we would ask that you still apply for Free School Meals through the normal channels if you are claiming any one of the income support items listed below. By doing this the school will receive additional funding (£1,300) from another source called Pupil Premium from Central Government. This funding will provide valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or after school activities.

  • ž Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • ž Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • ž Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit
  • ž Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • ž Child Tax Credit, my annual income is less than £16,190 and I don’t receive Working Tax Credit *

* Please note. If you are entitled to Working Tax Credit you will not be eligible to claim, unless you became recently unemployed and entitled to the four week run on.

Please contact the school office if you are entitled to any of the above benefits for a Pupil Premium Application Form. The information you provide in this form will be used to confirm receipt of one of the listed welfare benefits. Once this is confirmed, this helps to decide how much money the school will receive each year. You only need to complete this form once and it will last for the duration of your child’s time at this school.

Parking

Can we please remind parents that parking (or stopping to drop children off) on the school zig-zag lines in front of school or the white pedestrian crossing zig-zag lines on Buildwas Road is illegal.  Please always park considerately – and, preferably, in Dale End or Wharfage Car Parks (free parking permits are available from Telford & Wrekin Council – Ph:  01952 384 000).  Younger children should also not be left unattended in cars when dropping off older siblings.

Parents/ carers bringing dogs into school grounds at drop off and pick up times

We recognise that dogs are an important part of family life for many in the school community, and as such are often included in day‐to‐day activities such as walking children to and from school. However, others may find the presence of dogs in the playground and school grounds stressful, even frightening particularly with younger children, and even well‐behaved dogs can behave unpredictably when placed in a busy, noisy and crowded environment. Therefore school policy is that no dogs are allowed on school premises (either on a lead or carried).  We would appreciate your co-operation by not bringing your pet to school.

Meet the Teacher

Parents are invited to class group meetings to meet with their child’s teacher to find out about various aspects of the term ahead. Teachers will provide information about topics to be covered, homework, PE times, daily routines etc. Meetings will take place in the children’s classrooms and start at 3.30pm.

Year 1: Wednesday, 13thSeptember
Year 2: Monday, 11th September
Year 3: Monday, 11th September
Year 4: Wednesday, 13th September
Year 5: Thursday, 14th September
Year 6: Thursday, 7th September (to include information on Arthog Residential Trip)

We have tried to plan the meetings so that there are no clashes for parents with more than one child but please see your child’s class teacher if you are unable to attend.

A meeting will be held later in September for Reception Class parents when the teaching of Phonics and Literacy will be explained.

Year 6 Residential Trip

This is a reminder to Year 6 parents that there will be a meeting for parents in the Year 6 classroom on Thursday, 7th September (3.30pm) about the residential trip to Arthog.

Completed consent forms should be returned to the school office by Thursday, 7th September and the final balance is due on Friday, 8th September.

Attached below is a copy of the consent form and a kit list.
